A Rocky Start to the New Year

I haven't posted in a while, and there is a reason. I left Amarillo the Sunday following Christmas and arrived in Fort Worth around 5:00 p.m. I unpacked, ate dinner, and got things ready for work on Monday. Before I went to bed, David and I talked on the phone and I told him that I wasn't feeling well. I felt congested, and he was feeling similar, so I figured I was just coming down with a cold. That is, until 2:00 a.m. on Monday morning, when I started throwing up. That continued until Tuesday, when I finally went to the doctor. By that point, I was so dehydrated that the doctor had to give me three bags of fluids through an IV. Let's just say that it was a long week, made even longer by the fact that David was still in Amarillo and I was by myself sick in Fort Worth, a place that is still very unfamiliar to me. Three days off work, two trips to the doctor, and three prescriptions later, I was feeling better.
My family, who had planned to come into town to celebrate Christmas and New Year's on Wednesday, postponed their trip and came into town on Friday. By Friday I was still feeling tired and run down, but I was able to eat. I felt substantially better by Sunday. It really took me a week to get over my illness. It feels like I lost a week of my life. For four straight days, I did nothing but rotate between sleeping on the sofa and in the bed. David arrived on Wednesday (New Year's Eve), but we didn't do anything. I went to bed at 9:30, and I think he made it to 10:30 before falling asleep. We're wild and crazy!
It was great to have my family come into town to visit us, and I think it helped me get better a little more quickly than I might have if they had not come. We exchanged gifts, went shopping, drove around the city, and ate too much. It definitely helped me feel settled in once I was able to show them where I live and work now. I wish I would have felt better, but it was great to have them in town for a couple of days.
Needless to say, there hasn't been much going on in our lives over the past week. I am playing catch up at work and fighting what I like to call the "new year's resolutioners" at the gym (literally - tonight I waited 10 minutes for a treadmill, and the gym has at least 20). I know that this is just a fact of life at the gym at the beginning of the new year, but it is really cramping my style. Not that I am enjoying working out much - after a week of lying around, my workouts the past two days have been pretty painful. We are still working on getting into a routine here in Fort Worth, and we definitely still feel unsettled with our house still on the market in Amarillo, but I know things will eventually work out.

  2. Glad you are better. Horrible being sick - especially at the holidays. Great to see you and David on Christmas.
