Here's the latest information following the cancellation of the Heels & Hills Half Marathon. I don't even know if I am going to run the race in September, but I went ahead and secured my spot since it was "free." I am getting my shirt, so I am a happy camper! A Letter from the Race Directors We sincerely regret that the event had to be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.
As Race Directors, safety is our number one concern and we will not put anyone in harm's way. This not only includes participants, but friends, family, police, EMT, vendors and sponsors. The decision to cancel the event was one of our most difficult decisions, but after consulting with city officials and medical personnel it was determined the that canceling the event was in the best interest of everyone's safety.
We would like to thank you for your support and understanding in this most dificult decision. Still Need Your Shirt? For those of you who were planning on getting your event shirt Sunday morning, we will be mailing these shirts to participants. As there are several hundred to pack up and mail, please be patient as it may take a couple weeks to arrive on your doorstep! Refunds and Rescheduling Questions ... Announcing Inaugural Heels and Hills and Him The industry standard policy for race cancellation due to "acts of god", like the flash flooding this weekend, is to not issue any refunds as most costs are incurred leading up to race day whether the event occurs or not. Furthermore, resources are typically not available to allow for the rescheduling of an event of this size within a reasonable timeframe. But we're runners too, and we know that while these things happen, it is disappointing to not be able to run a race you've been training for and so looking forward to! We will be holding the Inaugural "Heels and Hills and Him" Half Marathon and 5K on Sunday, September 27, 2009. Heels and Hills participants will receive a FREE entry into the event that they were signed up for in May.
You will not receive another event shirt, because you received your 2009 Heels and Hills one. When half marathoners cross the finish line, you will receive your 2009 Heels and Hills finisher medal.
This free entry must be claimed by May 20.

Hopefully you'll be able to participate for "free." How kind of them!
ReplyDeleteGlad they rescheduled!
