Moving . . . Round Two

Last weekend was round 2 of our move from Amarillo to Fort Worth. Unfortunately, I think there may be a few more rounds of moving before we finally get settled, but at least we have the long-haul move out of the way.

All I can say is thank goodness for movers! Prior to this move, David and I have always moved ourselves. I still occasionally experience nightmares from the move from Lubbock to Amarillo when we moved everything out of our apartment by ourselves. We also moved everything from storage into our home in Amarillo with the help of friends and family, and after that move I swore we would stay put until we could afford to hire people to move us. This time, we were fortunate because my company paid for the move.

These movers are awesome. They packed up the entire house on Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. I cleaned out the garage and refrigerator while they packed up inside the house; I’ve never seen people move so fast. They just know what they are doing. They even shrink-wrapped our sofa! After Friday’s packing session, we stayed at Mindi and Jonathan’s house and enjoyed a relaxing evening of talking and laughing. We definitely miss hanging out with them all the time! Here are photos from Friday:

On Saturday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the movers loaded everything onto the truck. I am awfully thankful that I was not required to lift one piece of heavy furniture. We were back in Fort Worth by Saturday evening at 11:00. We were tired, but probably not nearly as tired as those movers. I am sticking to my guns on this one—we are never moving ourselves again!

Here are photos of the empty house on Saturday. This was definitely bittersweet -- we were sad to say goodbye to our first house, but happy that this long process was over.

As for our stuff, it is now in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be returned to us. We have no idea where we want to live down here, so we are planning to rent a house for a year or so to give us more time to decide where we want to settle down for the long-term. Hopefully we will find a new place over the weekend. I have been away from most of the stuff in storage for over six months now, and I am starting to miss naps on my sofa on Sunday afternoon and all the other things that make me feel like I am at home. I know I could live without it, but, frankly, I don’t want to. All this is to say that moving round #3 is likely right around the corner!
