Favorite Things # 3: Runs with David

David and I have been on very different schedules since we got married. The first three years of our marriage, I was in school while he worked full-time. Then I started working full-time and he went back to school. Then we both were working in Amarillo, but David got to work at 7:00 a.m. and was off by 4:00 p.m., while I worked until at least 6:00 every evening. Finally, we are getting settled in Fort Worth and we have similar schedules. We’re even commuting to work together some days of the week. On Wednesday we ran three miles, and on Thursday we ran six miles.

These runs were more therapeutic than for training after the awful week we had after losing Brennan. Nothing in me wants to step foot out the door for a run. I don’t feel like I have the energy to get out of bed, much less to put on my running shoes and go for a run. Our two runs this week have not been fun for me; my legs are still tired from the Cowtown Half Marathon, and my energy has just been zapped. That being said, the runs have been good for both of us. Sometimes we run and don’t say a word. Sometimes we talk about Brennan and how much he meant to us. We make plans for the future. We spend time together. I have often complained of our runs together; he runs faster than me and would often irritate me by looping back around to check on me. I don’t want to complain anymore. Despite my lack of energy and tired legs, I loved these runs together, and hope there are many more in our future.
Maybe you don't run, but I hope you find something to do together with your spouse, significant other, or best friend that is as meaningful to you as our runs have been this week.

  1. That makes me so happy to hear that you guys are leaning on eachother and having more time with one another. That is so important! You made me realize that Tony and I need a hobby to do together, like Golf, I guess, hahaha! Anyways, love you guys! Shannon and Family
