I love, love, love the NCAA tournament, and I hate, hate, hate working when the games are on. I spent many years watching the tournament during my Spring Break week. Even in law school, I would sit with my laptop, updating my class outlines, while watching every single game on TV. I have been working full time since 2005, and I still feel a sense of loss when I am working while the games are going on.
I don't know what it is about the tournament. I watch some NCAA games during the year, but mostly just Texas A&M games and a few other Big 12 games. But when the t
ournament rolls around, I watch them all. I am in two bracket competitions, with no more than $20 on the line, so it is not about winning a lot of money or fearing the loss of money. Maybe it's about watching teams play their hearts out or watching the underdog, every once in a while, take out a giant. Maybe it is a just a fun distraction from life in general. Maybe it is the fact that I have watched the NCAA tournament every year since I can remember. In all honesty, I really think I was hooked after I watched Christian Laettner hit the game-winning shot for Duke in the 1992 championship game. Yes, I remember 1992 and the basketball short-shorts era.
Whatever it is, you can bet I will be glued to the TV watching games every night until the final game in April.

Me, too! Just love this time of year!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE March Madness. If I could only think of a way to bring a TV to work that would actually work, I might really get more stuff done rather than switching back and forth on the internet trying to keep up with who is doing what.
ReplyDeleteI am so sad about missing the games last night. The first thing I did this morning in London was check the internet for the scores!
