The weekend was full of races, especially for David. It started on Saturday, when he traveled to Athens, Texas for a sprint triathlon. A sprint triathlon consists of a 300 swim, 14 mile bike ride, and a 5K run. I was supposed to attend, but he ended up going with a group of guys he met at the gym. It would have been fun to go, but they left at 4:45 a.m., so I was happy I didn't have to get up that early!
Although he is still 29, he had to compete in the 30-34 male age division pursuant to the USA Triathlon organization's rules. He came in 8th out of 19 in his division and 75th out of 215 overall. Click here to see the full results and his split times. He, in my opinion, did wonderful. He would tell you he could have done better, and I keep telling him that he's learning this new sport and that he definitely do better next time.
We got up early again today. After missing the first Fort Worth Runner's Club because we could not find the location and the second because we were out of town, we finally ran in a club race. Today's race was the St. Patrick's Day "Lucky 7" Seven-Mile Run. It was a lot of fun, but I was surprised there were not more people. I actually think there were less people than in many of the Amarillo races we ran in while we lived there. The weather was a little chilly, but there was no wind. I was actually thankful for the cool weather because this was a seven-mile race.
David had an awesome run, especially after finishing the triathlon and all the traveling he did yesterday. He finished with a time of 53:25. That's a 7:35 average pace for seven miles! I was proud of my time, too. My goal was to finish under one hour and keep my pace below 9-minute per mile pace. I did it, finishing with a time of 59:40, which is a 8:32 average pace. It became an especially good day when we both got first place in our age groups! We each won cute pint glasses printed with the race name in green, of course!
It was a nice weekend running and racing, but where do the weekends go? It's back to work tomorrow to prepare for the week of fun ahead, including watching lots of basketball (including our Aggies on Thursday) and running the Grasslands Half Marathon on Saturday. I will post the full results and photos from today's race soon.
